This shrine is dedicated to Amaterasu Omikami and is known as Moto-Ise Naiku (Original Inner Shrine) because, according to tradition, it was established here 54 years before Ise Grand Shrine was located in Mie Prefecture. The main hall is built in the same Shinmei-zukuri style as Ise Grand Shrine, with a thatched roof. The torii gate is a "black wood torii," carved from a cedar log without stripping the bark, representing the most primitive style. Both are rare throughout Japan, preserving the simple and rustic architectural style of ancient times. Furthermore, the towering trees and dense, deep forest surrounding the shrine and its approach retain the atmosphere of an ancient shrine. I believe that you can still feel the faith of those who felt the presence of the gods in nature, even after the passage of time.
